The Thai Culture and Language curriculum is designed to to give introductory information about Thailand, its people, culture, history and geography. Students gain a better understanding of the country in which they live and enjoy the special opportunity of studying in Thailand. Conversational Thai is taught with the emphasis on the correct pronunciation and usage. Thai speaking students study reading and writing appropriate to their grade level. Cultural field trips which also relate to Social Studies and Science themes are planned at each grade level. Students also participate in related activities and assemblies celebrating major Thai holidays.

This is my eleventh year at ISB and during that time I have taught PE, PE and PE!

I come from God’s great country, Australia and my passions in life are the oceans and mountains. Needless to say I am a keen surfer and an avid skier.

My wife is also a teacher at ISB, Kindergarten, and I have an 8 year old son, Zac, in grade 2. Our holidays revolve around skiing and the beach with trips to Japan and New Zealand skiing, and Australia for the beach.

I’m sure this year will be a busy and enjoyable one.

Cheers,

Steve.

Mrs. Diana Larsen

Hello First Graders and Families! This school year I work with Ms. Brickerd and Ms. Yoo’s fabulous first grade classes twice a week for forty minutes during our six-day cycle. During Music class, the children sing, play instruments, move to music,  speak rhythmic poems and nursery rhymes, and begin learning about music notation. Mr. Bullen, the other ES Music teacher, see each grade level as OUR kids, so your children will get to know both of us this year during team-teaching music experiences.

Please don’t hesitate to stop by after school or send an e-mail to dianal@isb.ac.th with any questions or concerns throughout the year.

Mr. Bullen

This will be my second year teaching music at ISB. I feel very fortunate to teach here because the students are so wonderful! This will be my 21st year of teaching. I taught for 13 years in Seattle, Washington, 3 years in Venezuela, 3 years in Myanmar, and now ISB. In addition to teaching music, I also compose music and have my own recording studio. I am looking forward to a great year with the 1st graders- we will be singing, playing xylophones and other percussion instruments, and doing lots of movement activities.

Welcome to an exciting new year in elementary art.
Our theme is:

“eARTh”…………It’s got ART!

We are embarking on a year- long world tour, complete with student passports to document our travels, learning, and experiences. Our goal is to explore the visual arts of many countries through their different art forms, festivals, and cultures.

As art teachers, we believe that your children should be exposed to and experience numerous creative activities, including painting, printmaking, ceramics, watercolor, collage, drawing, sculpture, and papier mache.

We will also be studying past and present great artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Warhol, Van Gogh . O’Keeffe, Close, Ringgold, and Monet.

As art specialists, we feel it is important to collaborate with classroom teachers to show how the art curriculum can enhance and fit into student learning.

This year we would enjoy having parent volunteers at different times during the semester to help with art in the classroom.  If you are interested please contact us and we will include you in our fun art activities!

The Grade 1 Spanish program is designed to build oral language skills.  Through songs, games, stories and collaborative activities, students build an ever-larger working vocabulary. We seek new ways and situations for students to express their ideas. The class is conducted almost entirely in Spanish (which was definitely a shock for some students in the first couple of weeks). Students are encouraged to try and express themselves as much as possible in Spanish.  The effort to do so is tremendous but highly valued.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact me at jamesd@isb.ac.th.

If you have not already received an email from me, please add my address to your email ‘safe list’.  Also send me a quick email to ensure that I have your correct address.  I use email extensively to communicate about what is going on in class and have already emailed Grade 1 families.
